The Ribo Center ("the Center", "we") respects the privacy of visitors to this site. This policy explains what information is collected, what it is used for, who it is shared with, and how you can exercise your rights under Israel's Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981.
What we collect
Information you provide: your email address, when you subscribe to our journal. Providing it is voluntary and is not required in order to browse the site; without it we cannot send you the journal.
Information provided when buying the book: name, contact details, shipping address and payment details. This information is submitted to and held by our payment provider, not by us - we receive from them only the order details needed to ship the book.
Information collected automatically: aggregate browsing data (pages viewed, browser and device type, referral source), collected through Google Analytics - and only if you have given your consent in the cookie notice. If you declined, no analytics data about you is collected at all.
Country detection: on your first visit the site checks which country you are browsing from, for one purpose only - to direct visitors outside Israel to the English version. The check is made against the api.country.is service, to which your IP address is sent. The result is stored in a cookie so the check is not repeated on every visit.
What we use it for
- To send you the journal and updates you subscribed to;
- To process and ship your book order;
- To present the site in the language appropriate for you;
- To understand site usage in aggregate and improve our content - subject to your consent.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties other than those listed below.
Who receives the information
| Substack | Journal subscription and mailing-list management. Your address is stored on Substack's servers, subject to its privacy policy. |
| Google Analytics | Aggregate traffic analysis. Loaded only after consent. IP addresses are anonymised, and advertising-personalisation signals are disabled. |
| YouTube (Google) | Podcast videos are embedded from YouTube. When you play one, connection data including your IP address is transmitted to YouTube. |
| Grow (Meshulam) | Payment processing for book purchases, including payment details and shipping address. The payment page is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which is subject to Google's privacy policy. |
| api.country.is | Detecting your browsing country in order to select the site language. |
| PEF Israel Endowment Funds | Donations from the United States are made directly on PEF's own site, subject to its privacy policy. We do not receive your payment details. |
| Cloudways | Site hosting and operational server logs. |
Cookies
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device. This site uses the following cookies:
| ribo_consent | Stores your choice in the cookie notice (accept or decline). Essential - without it we would have to ask you on every visit. 180 days. |
| trp_language_pref | Stores your language choice. One year. |
| trp_geo_country | Stores the detected browsing country so the check is not repeated. Temporary. |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics cookies, used to recognise repeat visits in aggregate. Set only after you consent. Up to two years. |
If you declined, the analytics cookies are never created. If you consented previously and have changed your mind, you can delete the cookies through your browser settings. You can also block cookies entirely in your browser; some functions may then not work fully.
How long we keep it
- Email address for the journal: until you unsubscribe.
- Book order details: as required for delivery, warranty and bookkeeping obligations.
- Analytics data: in accordance with Google Analytics' retention settings.
- Cookies: as set out in the table above.
Your rights
Under the Protection of Privacy Law you are entitled to review the information we hold about you, to request its correction if it is inaccurate, and to request its deletion. You may also unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time using the "unsubscribe" link at the foot of every mailing. To exercise these rights, see "Contact us" below. If you believe your rights have been infringed, you may contact the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority.
Information security
The site runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and we take reasonable measures to protect the information and restrict access to it. That said, no transmission of information over a network can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information about anyone under the age of 16.

We will update this policy from time to time. The date of the most recent update appears at the foot of this page.
